Nothingness

What do you write about when nothing is what you write about? You probably write about the weather or you write about your day and the article they're going to publish. Or, then, you write about some piece of news that has called your attention. Or, then again, you just start writing with no aim, just because you felt like writing. Does this ever happen to you? Writing for nothing and about nothing? Do you think this is strange? Or do you you think it is a natural occurence in someone's mind? And why is it that I can't write about nothing in Portuguese? Aren't there words of nothingness in Portuguese? And how do you say nothingness in Portuguese? Can a language not have a concept of nothingness?

And out of nothing at all you realise you end up having sentences and paragraphs and suddenly you may as well have a text. How can the ending be when you're writing about nothing? Can there actually be any ending? I mean, nothing is probably endless and you just don't end the endless. And from the nothing, here I am wondering about the endlessness that is probably related to the nothingness I've been writing about in a writing exercise with no purpose other than simply having no purpose.

But it's good when you let yourself go purposeless. It's such liberation. Such freedom. Who said we always have to write about something? Something is so castrating. I always write about something, always the limitation of something: the scientific something, the journalistic something, the political something, even the private something. What if we all wrote about nothing?

Curiously enough, you cannot write about nothing. My nothing is not your nothing and every nothing is different. So, in the very end, nothing is actually something.

Garcia Llorca!
